The Full Court Press

BRHHM philosophy on the full court press:  “Pressing is for losers!”

In my 20 years of basketball, the full court press has always been associated with a loser’s objective.  The team pressing has a coach that’s losing by X amount of points or the score tied & will turn the press on to swing the momentum of the game.  The other objective is the team pressing has a coach that’s a “loser”, winning by X amount of points and has the press on to further the margin of victory.

I’m not against the full court press, because good basketball is ALL about winning, but you will rarely see my teams in a press, as you will rarely see my team losing (or at least that’s MY goal).  A quality half-court defense & rim protection beats opposition far more consistently than a full court press. As a player’s career continues to graduate, they see less and less of the press. By the time a player make it to the pros the press is basically nonexistent.
